Brief Biography

Jim Vellenga, Software Architect: Jim has been working for over 30 years in the development of Electronic Design Automation (EDA) software, in responsibilities ranging from individual contributor to director of development.  He was a member of the team that founded Silc Technologies in 1987, which created and marketed SilcSyn, the first commercial language-based tool for digital electronic synthesis.  At Silc, Jim developed or consulted on all areas of product development, including language compilation, Boolean optimization, technology mapping, and schematic and netlist generation.  At Cadence Design Systems (2000-2008), he oversaw the development of the NC-Verilog language-based digital electronic simulator, eventually specializing on interfacing NC-Verilog to other products through the Verification Procedural Interface (VPI).  He has been active in several international standardization efforts for hardware description languages (EDIF, VHDL, and SystemVerilog) in both EIA and IEEE.  After a stint at System Centering Solutions, Jim has returned to Cadence, where he is now specializing in quality assurance for VPI and for simulation under constrained randomization.

Jim holds an M.S. in physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, having previously graduated with a B.S. in physics from Muskingum College.
